Felix Hernandez’ Bellevue home catches fire

The Bellevue Fire Department has knocked down a fire at a two-story residence belonging to Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez and are now working to preserve contents within the home before an investigation into the cause of the blaze can start.

Firefighters have knocked down a fire at a two-story residence belonging to Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez and are now working to preserve contents within the home before an investigation into the cause of the blaze can start.

Bellevue Firefighter Rich Burke said heavy smoke and flames were visible when the first engine arrived on the scene on the east end of Northeast First Street around 3:30 p.m. today and it remains unclear where the fire originated. No one was in the home when the fire started.

The fire department is not confirming the home belongs to Hernandez at this time, said Burke, but multiple media reports based on county records show the Mariners pitcher as the owner of the wood-frame house.

Firefighters from Bellevue, Mercer Island and Redmond responded to the blaze, and Burke said crews are expected to be cleaning up and investigating the residence through the night.
