Evensong planned in memory of Richard Proulx

Evensong, a service of anthems, hymns, and psalms, will honor the late Richard Proulx, composer, conductor, and musician who formerly lived in the Seattle area.

Proulx is a widely published composer of more than 300 works, including sacred and secular choral works, song cycles, two operas, and instrumental and organ music. He served for 10 years (1970-1980) at St. Thomas Episcopal Church-Medina where he directed three choirs and a chamber orchestra and established a tradition of liturgical handbell ringing.

He was also organist at Temple de Hirsch Sinai at that time.

The Evensong service is set for Sunday, March 28 at 5:30 p.m. in St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina. The St. Thomas Singers, under the direction of Charles Rus, will sing Jesu, the Very Thought of Thee and settings of the Phos hilaron and Psalm 84 by Proulx. The Compline Choir from Saint Mark’s Cathedral, Seattle, under the direction of founder and director emeritus Peter R. Hallock, will sing a setting of the Nunc dimittis and We Adore You, O Christ by Proulx.
