David Copperfield's accuser charged with prostitution in Bellevue

A Kirkland woman who accused magician David Copperfield of raping her during a trip to his private island now faces charges of prostitution and filing a false report with police.

The Bellevue City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday filed the charges against Lacey L. Carroll, 23, who was the first runner-up in the 2010 Miss Washington USA pageant.

Carroll allegedly engaged in foreplay with a 31-year-old man in a Bellevue hotel room and then offered to participate in additional sexual acts for $2,000.

The man refused, and Carroll left to tell hotel staff that she had been “taken advantage of,” according to reports.

The man called police around 11:02 p.m., reporting the incident as extortion.

Carroll called police at 12:30 a.m. and reported being sexually assaulted.

The pair met earlier that evening with a second woman at Lucky Strike Lounge and Bowl in downtown Bellevue.

The second woman, a 20-year-old, left the venue because of “dirty” sexual conversation between Carroll and the man, according to prosecutors.

The man told police that he and Carroll engaged in sexual touching at the lounge, although Carroll denied that such contact occurred.

Carroll told police that she got in a taxi with her male companion and blacked out, only to wake up in a hotel room with the man on top of her, pinning her shoulders to the bed.

According to the statement of probable cause, the pair tried unsuccessfully to get a room at the Bellevue Westin. Surveillance video from the hotel shows Carroll and the man hugging, kissing, and holding each other.

The pair then hired a taxi to take them to the Bellevue Club and Hotel, where they rented a room, according to charging documents.

A check-in employee told police she heard Carroll talk about calling another girl for a threesome and saying she was disappointed the 20-year-old girl had left them at Lucky Strike.

Surveillance video from the Bellevue Club and Hotel shows Carroll and the man engaging in “romantic behavior,” according to charging documents. It also shows Carroll taking an elevator by herself while her companion ordered champagne from the concierge desk.

Carroll returned to the concierge desk around 15 minutes later saying that “she had been taken advantage of,” according to reports.

Police say Carroll’s statements that night were vague and not supported by hotel security videos and witness accounts.

Carroll was taken for a rape test at Overlake Hospital, but refused to sign over the results to police, saying they might interfere with her case against Copperfield.

Federal prosecutors have dropped their rape investigation of the famous magician.
