City University gets diversity grant

Bellevue-based City University of Seattle has received a $98,750 grant from TG to support its Albright School of Education Diversity Scholars Program. The award for the 2009-2010 academic year allows CityU to expand upon its teaching curriculum and job placement assistance for 20 students from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

University leaders will devote a portion of the grant to hire a mentor/tutor coordinator to counsel students from enrollment through to post-graduation.

“More than 100 students have received $1.3 million in scholarships on behalf of this scholarship program since its creation in 2001,” said Lee Gorsuch, City University of Seattle president. “We’re grateful for TG’s generosity and commitment to our program despite the rocky economic climate where endowments are down and enrollment continues to rise.”

TG selected the university along with 54 national non-profit organizations and institutions to receive a portion of the more than $6.2 million in funding through its Public Benefit Grant Program. CityU is the first and only Washington state organization funded by TG.
