Car prowls are on the rise in Bellevue, with numbers climbing through the summer and into September.
Bellevue Police recorded 111 car prowls in June and 118 in July. Preliminary figures for August show 149 car prowls.
The increase is continuing into September as well.
A total of 50 car prowls were reported from Sept. 5-11, up from 37 during the week of Aug. 29 through Sept. 4. Both are an increase from the 27 cases reported from Aug. 22-28.
Residents are reminded to help prevent car prowls by removing their valuables from their vehicles.
“With many motor vehicle prowls, including the crimes committed by these two suspects, there are two common themes: unlocked vehicles and valuables left inside vehicles,” said Bellevue Police spokesperson Seth Tyler. “Most motor vehicle prowls can be prevented by locking vehicles, even when they are parked in a driveway, and not leaving any valuables in the vehicle.”
