Bellevue Fire Chief Michael Eisner will end his 40-year career with the city of Bellevue and retire next month, his retirement coming just two month’s behind the city’s police chief’s.

Eisner started with the Bellevue Fire Department in 1974, celebrating his 40th year with the city last month.  He moved up the ranks to become fire chief in 2009. His final day with the city is June 13.

“I truly believe that the men and women of the Bellevue Fire Department are our greatest asset and are directly responsible for all of the successes that the Department has enjoyed over the years,” Eisner stated in a message to his staff. ” I consider it to be both an honor and privilege to have served as the Fire Chief for the Bellevue Fire Department and leave with the confidence that the Department is in good hands with outstanding leadership and vision at all levels of the organization.”

An email to staff from City Manager Brad Miyake states a recruitment plan is being developed for finding the next Bellevue fire chief, and an interim chief has not yet been selected.

“As we have done with other key positions in the city, we will be looking to the public, Council and staff to help us determine the qualities we desire and need in the next Bellevue Fire Chief,” Miyake states in the email.

Bellevue Police Chief Linda Pillo retired in mid-April and is temporarily being replaced by former Chief Jim Montgomery, who was pulled out of retirement until a more permanent replacement is found. Miyake also served in his position in the interim for nearly a year before City Council voted last month to keep him on in the position.
