Bellevue’s Barnes & Noble gives Evergreen Hospital nearly 900 books

Barnes & Noble Booksellers of Bellevue and its customers donated nearly 900 books to Evergreen Hospital Medical Center Wednesday, Jan. 14. Brenda Gurung, the community relations manager for the downtown store delivered the books, presenting them to Steve Brown, the hospital CEO.

The books will be given to children in the Emergency Department, in Pediatrics and to families in the Family Maternity Center to entertain siblings of newborns. The donation includes a wide range of books, appropriate for toddlers through teenagers and young adults.

Each year during the holiday season, booksellers at the store ask customers if they’d like to purchase a book for the designated charity.

“Even in this economic climate, customers were most generous,” said Gurung. “Evergreen is one of our favorite places.”

The holiday book drive has collected about 3,000 books in less than four years.
