BC students named Coca-Cola academic scholars

The Coca Cola Scholars Foundation has named two Bellevue College students as 2014 Coca Cola Community College Academic Scholars. Jessica Zistatsis, of Issaquah and Michael Stewart, of Seattle, formerly of Sammamish, will be recognized at the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention on April 24-26 in Orlando, FL.

 

The Coca Cola Scholars Foundation has named two Bellevue College students as 2014 Coca Cola Community College Academic Scholars. Jessica Zistatsis, of Issaquah and Michael Stewart, of Seattle, formerly of Sammamish, will be recognized at the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention on April 24-26 in Orlando, FL.

The scholars recognizes high achieving two-year college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.

Zistatsis and Stewart also were named to the All-Washington Academic Team for their scholastic achievement, community service and involvement on campus, and were recognized March 27 in an awards ceremony at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia. The annual ceremony recognizes top scholars from community and technical colleges across the state.

Both students received additional scholarships at the March 27 event. Zistatsis received an additional Trustee Scholarship; Stewart received a scholarship from Washington State Employees Credit Union.

Zistatsis will attend UW in the fall and plans to pursue a career in the medical field through prosthetics engineering or medical instrumentation. She has a 4.0 cumulative GPA. She is Physics Club secretary and an Intervarsity Christian Fellowship leadership team member at the college. She also is active in her church choir and in children’s ministry. Zistatsis will attend the Orlando convention where she will also receive a gold medal for her score in the All-USA community college academic team competition.

Stewart will graduate this spring and continue his studies at a university in the fall, majoring in finance. He has a 3.94 cumulative GPA. He is co-president of the Business Leadership Community, contributes to the Student Alliance, and is marketing and public outreach coordinator for the Asian Pacific Islander Student Association at Bellevue College.
