Airbag Service, an automotive safety and electronics services company in Bellevue, has received the Patriot Award acknowledging the small business’ sacrifice that made it possible for 2nd Lt. Dan Pierce, a father of three to pursue his dream of military service. Pierce, a member of the 161 HHC Infantry Unit, nominated Airbag Service for the award. Airbag Service employs Pierce as an automotive technician.

Dennis Newell, representing the Washington Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), will present the award at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Airbag Service’s Bellevue service center, 1968 130th Ave. NE.

While working for Airbag Service, Pierce completed Basic Combat Training, Officer Candidate School and an associate’s degree. With only seven employees in the Puget Sound area, Airbag Service hired and trained a temporary staff member to cover Pierce’s civilian work responsibilities while he earned his rank.

“We are proud of Dan’s accomplishments,” stated Doug Hansen, president of Airbag Service. “It was our honor to support our country, to support Dan, and to support his family.”

“It has been rewarding, challenging and difficult since I joined the Washington Army National Guard,” Pierce said. “Without the support, understanding and patriotism of Doug, Tori, Andy, Tony, Nathen, Shaun and Doug Jr. at Airbag Service, the challenge would’ve been nearly impossible.”

During the award ceremony Airbag Service will receive the Department of Defense Patriot Award Certificate and a Patriot lapel pin.
