Local insurance agent’s passion is drawn from her own experience

Renton agency helps clients gain financial independence and security

When licensed insurance agent Rashida Gaye delivered her first death benefit check to a grieving widow, and saw the impact it had, it resonated with her life mission of helping create financial security for others – especially women.

“I have a passion for helping and coaching women,” Gaye says. “And in that instance I could see that there could be all kinds of concerns: How will I pay my mortgage? What about putting my kids through college?

“I try to teach women that they shouldn’t rely on their husbands or anyone else really, because anything can happen, and that they need to be financially independent.”

As owner of Renton’s Rashida Gaye Insurance Agency, she is proud to be one of a only a few black-owned insurance agencies in Washington state. Gaye says she’s also driven to help others gain financial security and generational wealth because of her own background of coming from poverty.

“I was always a go-getter,” Gaye says. “I put myself through college and then gained 14 years of sales and customer service experience before becoming an agent at Farmers Insurance in Renton.”

She was soon encouraged by others to take the unusual step of buying her own insurance agency.

“I’m one of a rare few people to actually buy an insurance agency – it’s normally the type of thing that’s passed down from one family member to another,” Gaye says. “I had my doubts because we had also just bought a house, but I decided to make the move and purchased a 45-year family-owned business.

“I’ve been doing it for two and a half years now, and I absolutely love helping others create financial security and generational wealth!”

Gaye and her team at Rashida Gaye Insurance Agency are committed to finding their clients the best value on insurance, including auto, home, life, business and specialty coverage. Gaye points out that they also carry some types of insurance that you won’t find at Farmers Insurance.

Their team of professionals create an atmosphere in which people feel comfortable calling with questions, and provide exceptional customer service and unbiased advice when answering their questions about insurance.

“Often people don’t even know what to questions to ask,” Gaye says. “Some agencies will use ‘insurance language’ – we try to explain things in a way that’s simple and comfortable.

“Creating safety and security for people is powerful!”
