Sign up for 2020 ‘Run to Rwanda’ Fun Run slated for September

Clyde Hill resident Sophie Sharp, an 11th grade student at The Overlake School, Redmond, and alum of St. Thomas School, Medina, is once again organizing a fun run to raise awareness and funding to benefit Rwanda Girls Initiative (RGI). The last two fun runs have been hugely successful community events and raised over $55,000 for RGI.

Participants will be given two weeks (Sept. 6 to Sept. 20) to run or walk as many miles as they can and they will be asked to submit their miles on our website! Our goal is to collectively run 8,862 miles from Bellevue, Washington, to Rwanda (as the crow flies). Hence the new name for the race: the 2020 RGI ‘Run to Rwanda’ Fun Run.

Runners can walk, run, or jog, but biking is not allowed. Even if you run or walk 1 mile, it still helps toward the organization’s goal. The event will have participation from around the world. There will be age group awards for many categories along with photo competitions such as best dressed, best animal, and much more. Participants will be able to vote and comment to help pick the best photo for each category.
