New art filling Bellevue Towers

The two red sculptures by local artist Julie Speidel anchor the front entrances of the Bellevue Towers leading the way to an extensive collection of original Northwest art. Bellevue Towers, a 540-unit condominium development located on the corner of 106th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Fourth Street, will be home to one of the largest collections of Northwest art in the region.

Project developer, Gerding Edlen Development Co. LLCC, purchased more than 300 individual pieces of art to line the North and South Tower’s lobbies, common areas and residential corridors. Among the most significant are four commissioned pieces by three well-known Northwest artists, including Speidel, Lucinda Parker and George Batho.

A large Lucinda Parker painting graces the North Tower lobby and a custom glass wall by George Batho welcomes residents home inside the South Tower.

The essence of artwork transcends to the architecture of the two buildings as well as a 25,000 square-foot landscaped park connecting the two towers on the fifth floor.

“Parks are a vital part of Bellevue and we wanted to compliment that aspect within the Towers,” said Jason Foss of Realty Trust City as he pointed out the open spaces and 360 degree views of the mountains, water and downtown Bellevue.

The Bellevue Towers are aiming to achieve LEED Gold Certification, incorporating sustainable practices to create a healthy living environment. Mulvanny G2 Architecture and GBD Architects designed the towers to be both artistically appealing and environmentally conscience.

The extensive, hand-selected art collection flows throughout the two towers, complimented by a deep Brazilian Cherry wood paneling along the residential corridors. The significant investment of roughly three-quarters of a million dollars was spent on sculptures, signature art pieces, and the installment of the art glass wall.
