Community input needed for Urban Forest Management Plan

The city of Sammamish will accept input until June 1.

The city of Sammamish is developing its first Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP), and staff wants to know the community’s vision for Sammamish’s urban forest.

Sammamish community members can provide their input via a survey located at http://bit.ly/SammamishForestSurvey. Input must be received by midnight on June 1. The survey questions are designed to provide an opportunity for the community to shape the early stages of development of the UFMP, and to help the city to better understand how and why the community values trees.

The UFMP is a community-wide planning process led by consultant Davey Resource Group and city staff. The UFMP will set the city’s priorities for the management, protection, and promotion of the urban forest.

The planning process for the UFMP will include a canopy cover assessment to determine the extent of the urban forest, a strategic planning process that will identify citywide goals for the urban forest, and a set of priorities for future city programs and regulations based on the latest science and best management practices.
