Chop Shop features contemporary dance, movement

Chop Shop: Bodies of Work, an Eastside annual Contemporary Dance Festival will return to the stage for the third year, at the Meydenbauer Theater in Bellevue. Chop Shop 2010 is presented by StoneDance Productions and The Theater At Meydenbauer and will take place on Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14.

Chop Shop: Bodies of Work, an Eastside annual Contemporary Dance Festival will return to the stage for the third year, at the Meydenbauer Theater in Bellevue. Chop Shop 2010 is presented by StoneDance Productions and The Theater At Meydenbauer and will take place on Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14.

The weekend festival, which sold out last year, will feature Seattle and Eastside-based dancers in two original performances, capturing world renowned choreography presented by dance companies and individual performers. Each of the choreographers has presented work to numerous critical successes throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America and the United States.

Performing artists include; Spectrum Dance Theater led by Artistic Director Donald Byrd, The Stone Dance Collective led by Artistic Director Eva Stone, choreographer Mark Haim, The Sho, Seattle Dance Project, The Phffft!, Whim W’Him, Coriolis Dance Collective, SD Prism Dance Theatre, Quark Contemporary Dance Theatre, and acornDance.

Chop Shop: Bodies of Work is funded in part by a generous grant from 4Culture and The City of Bellevue Arts Program.

In addition to the performances, a free lecture titled, Reading Dance, will take place on Sunday Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. The lecture will give a behind the scenes look at how contemporary dances are formed.

On Feb. 13 and Feb. 14, Master Classes will be taught by the Artistic Directors of the performing companies during daytime hours of the festival in the Meydenbauer Theater.
