Boy Scouts of America team up with PSE for Merit Badge Day

Scouts will get a chance to earn an Electricity and Energy Merit Badge.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is opening its Bellevue headquarters to host members of the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America for Merit Badge Day on May 12.

The all-day event will include hands on activities so Scout members get the chance to earn either an Electricity badge an Energy badge, or both. The event will be limited to 50 Scouts for each merit badge.

“This is another way that PSE is committed to being a valued contributor in the community,” said Renee Zimmerman, community projects manager at PSE and leader of the Merit Badge Day in a press release. “Bringing together my passion for volunteering in Scouting and bridging this partnership allows PSE employees the opportunity to give back to our youth and get them excited about our industry.”

Fifty Boy Scouts will focus on constructing their own mini-turbine and learn about different energy forms, conversions, and efficiency which will help them earn their Energy badge.

The group will also build their own electrical circuit as the scouts work on earning their Electricity badge. Along with learning how electricity works, Scouts will demonstrate what to do in electrical emergencies.
