The Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) will kick off its 42nd season on Nov. 7 and 8 with its first Masterworks concert, “Russian Fairytales,” a selection of classics from Russian composers.

The shows will feature selections from the Gayane Ballet by Khachaturian, Shostakovich’s “Concerto for Cello No. 1,” and Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade.” Newly-appointed interim music director Michael Miropolsky will lead the concerts, and cellist Amos Yang will make his debut with the group.

Yang has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout the

United States, the Far East, and Europe, including performances at the

Aspen Music Festival, the American Academy in Rome, Wigmore Hall, and

Alice Tully Hall. He has played with the San Francisco Symphony and Seattle Symphony.

A champagne toast celebrating the new season will follow the Nov. 7 concert.

All shows take place at the Theatre at Meydenbauer in downtown Bellevue.
