Put an end to NFL foolishness | Letter

In the final analysis, the NFL is supposed to be about entertainment. That is their product. Any distraction, like sitting for the National Anthem, diminishes that product.

There are consequences in the NFL for DUIs, spousal abuse, assault and a myriad other things, why not this? If players want to express themselves, they should do so as individuals, not as players. And certainly not on the playing field.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell gave a particularly weak response when asked about this sitting during the National Anthem. This simply shows that the owners should come together as one person and put an end to this foolishness. NFL viewership is down. It’s not going to improve until some sort of action is taken.
