Local recreational retailer REI will move 280 employees from its Kent headquarters to a new location in Bellevue by 2017, and is evaluating it’s long-term options.

Around 220 IT members will move to a satellite campus in Eastgate this fall, and another 60 IT employees will join them in 2016. The new Bellevue offices will be located at the Commons at 90.

“REI is growing and we have run out of space on campus in Kent,” said spokesperson Bethany Hawley.

REI currently has more than 1,100 employees in its Kent campus, and employs around 11,000 people total nationwide. The company reported that their revenue increased percent in 2014.

REI is in the midst of evaluating their long-term plans, but are not close to any final decision.

“We are in the process of evaluating our options for our full campus over the long term,” said Hawley. “We are looking three to five years out in the Puget Sound area–both urban and suburban locations, which also includes Kent.”
