Bellevue Mayor Don Davidson has tried to play peacemaker with a city council divided over light rail issues, but the group turned inside out last week when he tried to form consensus around a letter to Sound Transit.

Four council members – Davidson, Deputy Mayor Conrad Lee, Jennifer Robertson and Kevin Wallace – favor the B7 line for South Bellevue, which would run west of I-405 along the abandoned BNSF rail corridor.

Bellevue police will now respond to cardiac arrest incidents thanks to a new program that put automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in all city squad cars.

Police who arrive first to the scene of a heart failure will begin resuscitation efforts and deliver defibrillator shocks. Emergency medical responders will take over resuscitation duties once they arrive on scene.

The Bellevue City Council took pivotal action Monday on the issue of light rail, calling for city staff to draft a letter that would change its preferred alternative for South Bellevue.

Last year, the council chose a South Bellevue route known as B3 Modified, which would place East Link along Bellevue Way SE and 112th Ave. SE before entering downtown.
