Bellevue police officer kills knife-wielding suspect

Bellevue Police Department put the officer on administrative leave as the investigation continues.

The Bellevue Police Department (BPD) responded to a call on Dec. 5 regarding a man in Bellevue who police said was carrying a knife. The incident ended at the Kelsey Creek Shopping Center around 6:35 p.m. with a BPD officer shooting and killing the man.

Once the BPD received a report of the man with a knife, they dispatched several officers who met on the 15500 block of Main Street, according to the Independent Force Investigation Team – King County (IFIT-KC) media release. At least one officer approached the 44-year-old man.

According to the BPD, the man made an advance on one of the BPD officers, and in response, the officer fired his weapon, striking the man.

The BPD officers conducted life-saving measures while contacting the fire department, according to the investigation team. However, the man died at the scene, according to the IFIT-KC.

“The Bellevue PD Officer who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave pending this investigation,” according to the Dec. 6 media release.

The incident is currently under investigation by the IFIT-KC.
