Five receive Merit Scholarships

Five Bellevue-area students have received National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities.
Officials of each sponsor college selected their winners from among finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards
provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
The winners are:
Andrew W. Coover, Newport High School, probable career field: Mathematics, Vanderbilt University Scholarship.
Kyle D. Corbitt, Issaquah High School, probable career field: Computer Engineering, Brighan Young University Scholarship.
Katharyn Y. Jia, probable career field: Medicine, Rice University Scholarship.
Alexandra K. Schofield, Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, probable career field: Education (Computer Science Professor), Harvey Mudd College Scholarship.
Michael A. Sherry, Bellevue High School, probable career field: Business, University of Southern California Scholarship.
