Newport and Sammamish vaulting past competition | Prep gymnastics roundup

Newport: The Knights gymnastics team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 170-160 win over Bothell on Dec. 12. Newport’s Anna Bencke finished first in the all-around with a 37.3 (9.75 on floor, 9.5 on beam and a 9.25 on vault). Another Newport gymnast, Bella Nilsen, finished second in the all-around with a 36.6, including a 9.3 on vault and a 9.6 on floor. Other top performers for the Knights were Maddy Thompson (9.35 on floor and an 8.7 on beam) and Keerthi Sevugan(9.2 on floor). The next meet for the Knights is at Mount Si on Jan. 9.

Sammamish: The Totems (2-0) made it a perfect 2-0 to start the new season with a 178-160 victory over Mercer Island on Dec. 12. The next meet for Sammamish is at Issaquah on Jan. 9.

Interlake: The Saints (0-2) lost a close meet to Skyline, 138-132, on Dec. 12. Interlake will host a three-team meet against Juanita and Monroe on Jan. 9.

Bellevue: The Wolverines (0-2) lost to Lake Washington, 178-125, on Dec. 12. Bellevue’s next meet is against Liberty on Jan. 9 at Bothell High School.
