Bellevue grad Jack lights up Cats, social media | Alumni football news

2013 Bellevue grad Myles Jack was a Wolverine only months ago. Now, he is the toast of the Pac-12.

Prep football fans in Washington know all about Myles Jack.

Now a true freshman with coach Jim L. Mora and UCLA, Jack spent his prep career at Bellevue, which included a coming-out party as a sophomore on the offensive side of the ball and an effort in 2012 that earned him state player of the year honors, a U.S. Army All-American Bowl bid and another state title with the Wolverines as part of the most dominant defense in recent memory.

Saturday in Tucson, Pac-12 and college football fans learned what those around KingCo and the WIAA have known for three years: Myles Jack can play some football.

Already a starter on the defense and with a host of standout performances to his credit in his first collegiate season, most notably a five tackle game against Oregon that also included forced fumble and blocked punt, Jack made national headlines in his team’s 31-26 win over Arizona, taking over the game on both sides of the ball, upstaging the nation’s leading rusher from 2012 in Arizona’s Ka’Deem Carey and dominating social media in the process.

Not only did Jack record eight solo tackles on defense, he entered the game as a running back for the first time since the his Bellevue team beat Eastside Catholic 35-3 for the 3A state title last year and showed no rust, toting the rock six times for 120 yards, including a highlight-reel 66-yard touchdown that left broadcasters, college football fans and pundits simply in awe.

Monday, the Pac-12 Conference announced Jack as its Offensive Player of the Week.

While his performance was nothing short of spectacular against Arizona, hometown fans may be left lamenting the fact Jack is doing his damage in powder blue rather than the purple and gold of Washington, where several of his former Bellevue teammates are on the roster. The former Wolverine will get his chance to shine against the hometown team Friday, as UW travels to the Rose Bowl to meet the 19th ranked Bruins at 9 p.m. on ESPN2.
