Newport High School alumnus AJ Block, who currently is a pitcher on the Washington State University baseball team, was selected in the 17th round (502nd overall) of the Major League Baseball draft by the Detroit Tigers. Sammamish High School alumnus Greg Leban, who pitches for Austin Peay State University, was selected in the 31st round (937th overall) by the Atlanta Braves.
