Marino is making a sizable impact in first season with Bulldogs

Bothell High School 2017 graduate Megan Marino is thriving in her freshman season with the Bellevue Bulldogs softball program.

Marino’s ability in the batters box has been undeniably evident in early season action. Through 17 games, Marino has a .540 batting average (27-for-50) and has recorded 21 RBI.

“It has just been really fun. My teammates, they’re the best. We just mesh so well and it makes it so much fun overall. I’m excited to play and every game we are really hyped. There is no pressure and no stress. You just go and do what you do,” Marino said.

The Bulldogs have an overall record of 16-1 and will be a contender to win the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) tournament in May. The freshman infielder is enjoying the college experience on and off the field.

“The biggest change is the responsibility. You have a lot more free time and I get to be in charge of what I do every day. I love the freedom. It is a big responsibility but it’s a great one to have,” Marino said.

Marino said being part of the Bulldogs program is a special feeling.

“We are a family,” she said.

Recently the Bellevue Reporter had an opportunity to ask Marino a few questions about her life away from the softball field.

Bellevue Reporter: What is your favorite restaurant in Bellevue?

Megan Marino: It is Din Tai Fung in downtown Bellevue. I have only been there two times but I really like it. I have been to China, so it kind of brings me back.

BR: Who was your idol growing up?

MM: I loved Ali Aguilar (former University of Washington softball player). I watched her growing up. I would also say my parents. They were very good role models for me.

BR: What is the last movie you saw in the theater?

MM: I saw the “It” movie. It was a scary one.

BR: Who was your favorite sports team growing up?

MM: The Seattle Mariners. My friend used to have seats down by the first base dugout. It was the best thing ever.

BR: What is your biggest pet peeve?

MM: When people don’t listen. If I’m talking to someone and they say, what?

BR: What kind of music are you listening to the most in your car right now?

MM: Probably hip-hop or rap.
