Baseball

Newport 4 Kentlake 1

Jake Rosen gave Newport worked five innings and allowed only one unearned run, striking out four to help the Knights to a 4-1 win over visiting Kentlake in the season opener.

The Falcons managed only two hits on the game, as Rosen, Sumair Shah and Conner Baumann each saw action on the mound.

Tyler Nakama had a pair of hits and two RBI and Rosen had a double and knocked in a run for Newport.

Coach Hal DeBerry’s squad travels to face Bellevue on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.

Eastlake 3 Interlake 4

The Saints survived a seventh-inning comeback attempt from the Wolves to escape with a 4-3 win in the season opener.

Henry Lin went four innings and allowed only one hit before Austin Strother picked up the save in relief.

Joey Button and Sam Finfer each had a two-hit day for Interlake. Eastlake’s Michael Staudinger was 3-3 with a home run and RBI.

Newport led early but managed only a pair of base hits in the 2-1, season-opening loss.

Glacier Peak picked up a pair of runs in the third and another in the fourth before holding on for the win.

Boys lacrosse

Bellevue 19 Woodinville 4

Cole Johnson scored four goals and had three assists to help Bellevue to its second win to open the season.

Hank Bethke had a pair of goals in the win.
