Input sought for design of ‘greenway’ to Botanical Garden

The city of Bellevue is seeking public input on possible improvements to streets leading to two of the city’s most popular attractions – the Bellevue Botanical Garden and Wilburton Hill Park. Proposed changes are intended to improve access for cyclists and pedestrians while reinforcing Bellevue’s reputation as a “city in a park.”

Residents, nearby business tenants and others are invited to offer input on possible “greenway” enhancements to Southeast First Street, Main Street and 124th Avenue Northeast at an open house at City Hall (450 110th Ave. NE) on Oct. 20, 5:30-7 p.m., in Room 1E-112.

Improvements under consideration include special landscaping, improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians, natural drainage and better lighting.

Planners are drafting a conceptual design for the greenways while permitting for a new display garden in the Bellevue Botanical Garden is underway. Construction of the Ravine Garden is set to begin next spring.
