I’m mostly in agreement with Becky LaMonte’s recent letter condemning the unethical recruiting practices of the Bellevue High School football program, but I found one statement in her letter to be offensive: “They were all outstanding athletes and most times of African-American descent.”

The race of the recruited students is irrelevant to the unfair recruiting practices being discussed. The statement promotes the racially prejudiced stereotype of black athletes as having inherently superior ability.
