Actor to keynote breakfast to aid victims of domestic violence

Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna and wife, Marilyn, will host Eastside Domestic Violence Program’s (EDVP) Safe Passage Breakfast – A World of Hope Friday at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue.

Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna and wife, Marilyn, will host Eastside Domestic Violence Program’s (EDVP) Safe Passage Breakfast – A World of Hope Friday at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the program is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. The event raises funds for services to thousand of victims of domestic violence.

Keynote speak for the event will be Victor Rivas Rivers, a popular film and TV star and former player for the Miami Dolphins.

Rivers himself was a victim of abuse, but thanks to those who stepped in as his champions, he was able to break the cycle of violence.

As the spokesperson for the National Network to End Domestic Violence, he uses his own harrowing story of surviving abuse on the level of torture to raise awareness about what he considers our greatest, yet most curable disease. He tells his story of survival and hope in the New York Times Best Seller, A Private Family Matter.

A book signing, hosted by Barnes & Noble, will follow the event at 9 a.m.

EDVP’s Corporate Partners of the Year award will be presented to owners of WorldMark, The Club & WorldMark by Wyndham for their leadership and ongoing support of thousands of families in need.

EDVP’s Volunteer Team of the Year award will be presented to Habitat for Humanity of East King County for its renovation of EDVP’s homeless shelter, My Friend’s Place. Their work, in partnership with a Boeing Employees Community Fund grant, supports confidential, transitional housing and supportive services for thousands of victims and their families.

More than 400 people are expected at the breakfast. Jean Enersen, of KING 5, will be the emcee. Event chairs are Dick Gram and Karen Wawrzaszek.
