Bentley Altizer to get Eagle Scout award on Oct. 18

Bentley Altizer, age 17, of Newport High School will receive his Eagle Scout Award at a ceremony on Oct. 18. Bentley is a junior at Newport and has been a Scout of Troop 438.

For his Eagle project Bentley organized and carried out a food drive for Newport Community Church in Newport Hills, benefiting the Newport Community families in need during the summer of 2008. He has completed 21 merit badges, climbed Mt. Adams twice, trekked at Philmont, a 50-mile backpack, and through the troop has been involved in a variety of service projects.

Bentley also attained his certification for Eastside Search and Rescue, runs cross country for Newport, plays the base trombone in the both Newport’s Jazz1 band and Seattle Pacific University’s Jazz Band, and has been involved in leadership at Newport.
