Kelly Barefield earns scholarships at Western Washington University

Kelly Barefield, daughter of Douglas Barefield Sr. of Seattle and Tiffinnie Barefield of Bellevue, received a $1,500 John and Marilyn Warner Promise Scholarship, a $750 Mary Barnes and Violet Malone Black American Women Scholarship and a $1,500 Max and Priscilla Higbee Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year at Western Washington University.

Kelly Barefield, daughter of Douglas Barefield Sr. of Seattle and Tiffinnie Barefield of Bellevue, received a $1,500 John and Marilyn Warner Promise Scholarship, a $750 Mary Barnes and Violet Malone Black American Women Scholarship and a $1,500 Max and Priscilla Higbee Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year at Western Washington University.

The John and Marilyn Warner Graduate Fellowship in Education Scholarship is awarded to students admitted to a Woodring College of Education graduate program. Preference is given to applicants pursuing a degree in Educational Administration.

The Mary Barnes and Violet Malone Black American Women Scholarship is awarded to Black American students who have been accepted for undergraduate or graduate study in the Woodring College of Education.

The Max and Priscilla Higbee Memorial Special Education Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student in the exceptional children program within the Woodring College of Education at WWU.

Barefield, a senior at WWU, has earned a 3.59 GPA. She is planning to graduate in spring 2011 with degrees in Special Education and Elementary Education.

Her professional goals include receiving a master’s degree and a doctorate, both in Multicultural Education.
