Holmgrens return to serve Thanksgiving meal

Published 5:52 pm Monday, November 23, 2009

Mike and Kathy Holmgren might have left Seattle, but their passion about this community has brought them back to serve Thanksgiving meals at The Salvation Army’s William Booth Center in Seattle. Mike’s grandparents were Salvation Army officers and Kathy is a former board member. Now living out of the state, The Holmgrens say this event is the nearest to their hearts, which is why they’re making a special trip back this year.

William Booth Center serves as a year-round transitional men’s shelter, including many veteran’s and those with respite care needs. But every Thanksgiving, the doors are open to everyone in need. The Center usually feeds more than 500 during day with walk-ins welcome.

Closer to home, The Salvation Army will serve a Thanksgiving meal in Bellevue from noon to 3 p.m. at its Eastside Corps., 911 164th Ave. NE. Walk-in also are welcome.
