Bellevue dominates KingCo Championships

Thanks to several strong individual performances, the Bellevue boys and girls cross country teams swept the conference championships Oct. 22 at Lake Sammamish State Park. The Bellevue boys dominated the competition, beating second-place Mercer Island by 46 points.

Michael Williams won the event for the Wolverines, finishing in 15:36. Teammate Joel Ambo was right behind him, finishing in 15:37.

Phillip Matthews (6th, 16:10), John Fowler (8th, 16:40) and Robert Ferris (10th, 16:45) all had top-10 finishes for the Wolverines.

The Interlake boys finished fifth with 112 points, while Sammamish finished seventh with 206 points.

The Bellevue girls team also won the conference title, besting Mercer Island 27 to 45. Melanie Luis was the highest finisher for Bellevue, taking fourth place in 20:13. Vandan Kasar took sixth and Casey Warendorf finished in eighth place for the Wolverines in 20:30.

Interlake’s Eleanor Tansley took 10th in 20:35.

The Newport girls team moved on to the district race by finishing fifth. Jessica Spray was the Knights sole top-10 finisher, takings seventh in 19:30.

The Sea-King District championship took place Thursday. Results were not available as of Reporter deadline.
