Struggling with grief after the death of their 3-year-old son Ben in 2008, of a rare pediatric cancer called neuroblastoma, Jeff and Carin Towne founded the cancer research foundation organization in 2010. The goal of the foundation is to help other families going through similar struggles. Since 2010, the foundation has partnered with the Center for Childhood Cancer Research and Dr. Michael Jensen, and in 2012, the Seattle Children’s Research Institute honored Ben Towne Foundation by renaming its Cancer Research Center: Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research. The foundation has contributed $5 million toward rapidly accelerating the rate at which the Center is able to research and fund clinical trials.

The event aims to build awareness about the foundation while providing families an opportunity to do something together. Last year, the foundation hosted a private screening of Disney/Pixar’s CARS 2 at Lincoln Square Cinemas in Bellevue. There were 650 people at that event. The second annual family event is expected to double that number.

Doors open at 9 a.m.. Registration is now closed, but there is a waiting list. For more information go to bentownefoundation.org.
