Full lane closures scheduled for nights on I-90

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) close lanes and ramps on Interstate 90 near Interstate 405 to prepare for the opening of a new freeway bridge.
All eastbound lanes of I-90 will close nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Dec. 8 and ending Dec. 11.
Drivers will be detoured onto southbound I-405 to Coal Creek Parkway before returning to I-90 via northbound I-405. The following area ramps will also be closed:
• The on-ramp from eastbound I-90 to northbound I-405.
• The off-ramp from eastbound I-90 to Factoria Boulevard.
• The on-ramp to eastbound I-90 from Bellevue Way.
• The bike path parallel to I-90, from Factoria Boulevard Southeast to 118th Avenue Southeast.
Crews will later close all lanes of westbound I-90 at I-405 nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Dec. 15 and ending Dec. 18. Also closed will be the on-ramp to westbound I-90 from Richards Road. During the closure, drivers will be detoured onto northbound I-405 to Northeast Eighth Street before returning to I-90.
Full closures are needed while crews remove plywood and other temporary construction materials, called falsework, from the new bridge, which will carry southbound I-405 traffic over I-90. The closures are similar to the ones WSDOT used in late April and early May, when workers installed girders for the new bridge.
All of this work is part of the I-405 South Bellevue Widening Project, designed to relieve congestion at a notorious I-405 bottleneck – the drive in and out of downtown Bellevue. Bellevue’s Traffic Advisories offers the latest on roadway closures affecting traffic in the Bellevue area.
