Nine Bellevue 2009 graduates have been awarded scholarships from the Bellevue PTSA Council, which represents all of the PTAs in the Bellevue School District. Each scholarship is for $1,000.

The Michael Riley Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by local PTAs, and is awarded to one student from each of the high schools. It is named in honor of the former superintendent, who passed away recently. Winners are chosen based on excellence both in academics and in school activities.

The Alice Hurd Memorial Scholarship is also awarded to a student from each of the high schools. It is funded by a trust established by the Hurd Family to honor their wife and mother, Alice Hurd. She was a tireless and enthusiastic volunteer in PTA and an outstanding child advocate.

In recognition of her volunteer spirit, the winners of this scholarship must demonstrate outstanding community service. This year’s winners averaged 780 hours of volunteer hours, with one recipient earning 1,350 hours of community service during high school.

The recipients are:

Alice Hurd Memorial Scholarship
