Redbox sets DVD rental record

Redbox, a company owned and operated by Bellevue-based Coinstar, rang out 2009 by renting a record 2 million DVDs on New Year’s Eve.

Tops choices: “Paranormal Activity,” “District 9,” “G-Force,” and “Julie & Julia.”

Company officials credited many people deciding to stay at home on New Year’s Eve with sparking the record.

The company operates 19,000 kiosks and customers can rent a DVD for $1 a night.
