New endowment to expand Furniture Bank

The National Council of Jewish Women has created the Karyn F. King Endowment to benefit their Furnishing Peaceful Homes program. The program, based on the Eastside, acquires donations of gently used furniture and household items and distributes them without charge to women and families transitioning from violent homes or temporary shelters to permanent housing.
It is the only such furniture bank in Washington, and one of only a handful in the nation. Since 2001, it has received over 9,800 pieces of quality used furniture and helped over 600 families settle into new homes.
The endowment will allow NCJW to expand its services – adding additional furniture pick up days to provide donors more opportunities to give as well as acquiring additional warehouse space to expand the showroom and providing additional case management days to allow more women and families to pick furnishings from the warehouse.
The fund has been set up so that others may make tax deductible contributions directly to Furnishing Peaceful Homes. More information is available at www.ncjwseattle.org or by calling 425-558-1894.
