Lakeside Recovery 17U still alive in state tournament | Sports Roundup

After two games at the AA Legion State Baseball Tournament in Spokane, Lakeside Recovery remains unbeaten and in the winners bracket after defeating the Mead Panthers and Chehalis Sobe Toyota.

In the opening round, Lakeside defeated the squad from Mead 6-2 before outlasting Chehalis 8-6 on Wednesday. Waiting for coach Mark Thorpe’s team this afternoon is the Burlington Sox, who have earned 16-10 and 10-4 wins to remain in the winners bracket for today’s contest.

The winner of today’s 4:30 p.m. game will face the winner of a losers bracket game between the host Gonzaga Prep Bulldogs and Asotin. The loser will meet the survivor of an elimination game between Kennewick and Chehalis.

Local golfers shine at WJGA State Championships

A handful of local players participated in the Washington Junior Golf Association state championship last week at Walla Walla Country Club, with several finishing near the top of their age group after three rounds of play.

The top finisher of the day for the boys was nine-year-old Ian Siebers of Bellevue, who shot a pair of 39s on the first two days before finishing with an 81 to end the tournament with a score of 159 and in third place of his division. Ryan Park, an 11-year-old also from Bellevue finished two spots and three strokes behind Siebers with a final score of 162.

For the girls, Newport’s Jessica Kent ended the tournament in seventh place in the 16-17 girls age division by following her opening round 84 with rounds of 77 and 86. In the 14-15 girls age division, 14-year-old Marinne Li shot 76-78-84 for a total of 238, which was good for a fifth place finish.
