Interlake wrestlers dominate Seamount League

Interlake, competing in the Seamount League meet thanks to their 2A classification, dominated the competition last weekend, taking first place and sending eight wrestlers to the finals.

The Saints scored 243 points to run away with the title, beating Renton (184), Foster (151), Lindbergh (126.5), Evergreen (100) and Tyee (72). Interlake wrestlers won seven of the 14 weight classes.

Daniel Montoya captured the 125-pound title by pinning Lindbergh’s Mark Rodriguez in 4:18. Ryuji Kawashima picked up the 135-pound championship with a 10-4 decision over Khen Untalon of Renton, while Nickolaus Halvorson pinned Khali Crowl of Renton in 3:38 for the 145-pound title.

Jacob Marks won the 152-pound weight class by pinning Tyee’s William Marble in 54 seconds.

Alex Giseburt (160) continued the Interlake dominance with a 22-7 technical fall victory over Larry Peneta of Evergreen in the finals, while Sam Chapman won the 189-pound weight class with a 12-7 decision over Maile Taufa, also of Evergreen.

Chad Peterson picked up the Saints final title of the night, winning the 215-pound weight class with a pin in just 57 seconds of Martin Hooker of Renton.

Interlake’s Joesph Button came up just short in the 130-pound weight class, losing to Tyee’s Abraham Torres 6-4 in overtime.

Marcus Kopp (103), Juan Mujo (140) and Ethan Spading (285) all finished third for the Saints.
