Sound Transit stand appalling

Published 2:55 pm Monday, August 1, 2011

Thanks for the most informative reports in the two recent issues. We are appalled and sad to see the stand of Sound transit on the B2M/C9T option.

The following should be considered:

112th Avenue Southeast was built on a swamp and the Slough runs parallel to it. In 2002 the entire length of Southeast Eighth Street was reconstructed to correct a flooding problem due to unstable terrain. The cost was $2.543 million and the problem was not 100 percent corrected; the area still floods.

This option will require removal of about 1,150 trees, as counted by a neighborhood team, and will finish forever the habitat where we still have ducks and geese crossing 112th.

The elevated route will impact the entire Surrey Downs neighborhood with noise. There will be no mitigation for this. What is wrong with Sound Transit not considering B7 as the less impact on the environment and families?
