Bellevue Police say a baby is fine after a car crashed into its nursery and partially collapsed the 9-month-old’s crib.
Police Ofc. Seth Tyler said a 34-year-old Bellevue woman was receiving driving lessons from her husband around 11 a.m., when she accelerated into a carport at the Hampton Greens Apartments.
The Toyota Rav 4 knocked down a beam from the carport before it jumped the curb, rolling down a small embankment and through a wall into the baby’s nursery. The car partially collapsed the crib.
“It really was pretty miraculous that there was no injury,” Tyler said. “The baby was kind of resting on top of the debris.”
The infant’s parents had him checked out by responding Bellevue firefighters.
The entire wall of the bedroom came down in the crash, Tyler said, causing thousands of dollars in damages. The driver did have insurance, so settling the damages will be between her insurer, the apartment landlord and tenants, who sustained personal damages.
Tyler said the driver will not be cited for the accident, but a report will be filed and applied to her driving record.
“In the past, when we’ve had cars into buildings and no injuries, we have not issued citations,” he said, adding the department was maintaining that practice with this accident.
