Forty-three Newport High School Chamber Orchestra students took second place at the American Strings Teachers Association’s National Orchestra Festival in Salt Lake City on March 20.

Only nine high schools were invited to compete, and this was Newport’s first time entering the three-day event, led by orchestra director Christine Gero.
