Totems’ West in American Family Insurance 3-Point shootout bracket

Sammamish has been knocked out of the playoffs, but senior Jacob West still has a chance to take the court one more time as a prep and on a national stage nonetheless.

West is in a 16-person bracket with other top sharpshooters from around the nation to earn the eighth and final spot in the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championship, which will take place on Thursday, Apr. 1 at 1:30 p.m. on CBS.

“Jacob is a great shooter but an even better person,” Sammamish head coach Wes Newton said. “I believe in a set shooting contest, he can out-shoot almost anyone.”

West is matched against Kameron M. from Mandarin (Fla.) in the first round and currently has a stranglehold with 88 percent of the vote.

If he receives the majority of the vote, he will move to the round of eight and be only three more wins from representing Sammamish and Washington on CBS. None of the other 15 members of the bracket is from Wash.
