More honors for Interlake girls soccer coach, senior superstar
Interlake High School girls soccer coach Kirk Tavener, who was named Coach of the Year for 2011 by the Bellevue Reporter, has also earned that distinction for all of Washington after being named Coach of the Year for small schools by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Tavener, who finished his first season as the head coach of the Saints’ girls with a 2A state title, also saw his superstar Isabel Farrell recognized by the NSCAA with a spot on the girls All-Region VIII team. Farrell and Issaquah senior Audrey Thomas were the only two players from Washington to be selected to the team, which is comprised of student-athletes from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, California, Nevada and Hawaii.

Christian Villani beat Matt Iwicki from Eastside Catholic by decision 8-1. Villani is currently ranked second for the 2012 state title and is 19-1 on the season.
Other Bellevue medalists included senior Andy Ewing (126) who placed third, and senior Ben Matteucci (132) and junior Jamey Mange (185) each capturing fourth place.
Bellevue finished sixth place overall without senior wrestlers Peter Ovens and Colin Small.
