Eastgate annexation campaign seeks volunteers | Update

Update: The meeting has been canceled.

Bellevue is seeking volunteers to go door-to-door in Eastgate to speak with residents about the coming annexation effort.

The Eastgate Annexation Information Campaign will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. Volunteers will be briefed on the benefits of the planned annexation before going into the neighborhood in teams of two to speak with residents. Volunteers will leave bags on the doors of residents who are not home.

The volunteer event is part of an effort to collect signatures of approval representing 50 percent the area’s assessed property value. Since June 30, owners representing 44 percent of the area’s assessed value have signed the petition to annex, according to Bellevue’s website.

The proposed annexation would take in more than 5,500 residents from the neighborhoods of Eastgate, Tamara Hills, Hilltop and Horizon View. These areas currently receive services such as police and fire from the county, which has a hard time meeting its demand. Annexation would bring the areas under Bellevue’s police, fire and utility services, among other possibilities.
