Saints, Knights state bound | Prep volleyball

Interlake opened the West Central District III volleyball tournament with a three-game win over Washington (25-15, 25-16, 29-27) to earn a spot in the 2A state tournament.

The Saints used 10 digs and six kills from Carolyn Fordyce and 11 digs from Kori Maitlen to go with 10 more from Alyssa Deardorff.

Port Angeles sent Interlake to the consolation bracket in a tightly contested five-game match in the tournament semi-finals before North Kitsap defeated the Saints in four games in the following match to give them the fourth seed from the district.

Interlake will face Selah in the opening round of the double-elimination 2A state tournament on Friday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 pm at the Evergreen State College.

Life Christian 3 Bellevue Christian 1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19)

Bellevue Christian came up one win short of the 1A state tournament, falling in four games to Life Christian in the sixth-place game of the District 1 tournament on Saturday.

The Vikings were led by the 20 digs of Emily Stoppler and 28 assists from Katie Hoffman, who also tallied nine digs, three blocks and four aces. Meredith Lampe finished with 19 kills, six blocks, eight digs and one ace.

The hosts from King’s captured the title over Lynden Christian while Cedar Park Christian, Overlake, Annie Wright and Life Christian also earned state berths.

In the 4A state tournament, regular season conference champion and tournament runner-up Newport will face Olympia in the first round on Court 3 at 11:45 am on Friday, Nov. 11.
