In the 1910s one of the students at Bellevue’s Highland School was a young boy named Richard Bennett. He sketched a series of illustrations of “Famous Sweethearts” as a present for a girl in his class. The medium was pencil on the lined pages of a composition book. Bennett grew up to become an author and illustrator of over 200 children’s books.

Heritage Corner is a feature in the Bellevue Reporter. Material is provided by the Eastside Heritage Center. For more information call 425-450-1049.
