Chief Operating Officer David Loewe has been appointed interim Executive Director of the Bellevue-based Seattle Humane Society.

Loewe has played a key role in the shelter’s success, including the record-setting placement of 6,091 animals in 2009.

A national search is under way to replace CEO Brenda Barnette, who has been appointed head of the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services.

Loewe joined the staff at Seattle Humane Society in November 2006 after serving as a volunteer. Prior to the Seattle Humane Society, he spent more than 20 years in management operation roles, including work in commercial nuclear power with Kansas Gas & Electric.
