The Metropolitan King County Council has recognized the 2009 Cascade Eagle Scouts for their dedication and service to the community. Led by Councilmembers Jane Hague and Reagan Dunn, both of whom represent Bellevue, the council acknowledged the contribution of 73 scouts representing Bellevue, Mercer Island, Yarrow Point, Hunts Point, Medina and unincorporated King County that achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2009.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank possible in the Boy Scouts of America program.
“These young men are the leaders of tomorrow,” said Hague. “Many Eagle Scouts have gone on to great things and I’m sure the same will be true for the 2009 Cascade Eagle Scouts.”
Dunn added that “I offer my congratulations to the Eagle Scouts, their families, and Scout leaders. Their achievement paves the way to a positive future for themselves and their communities.”
Achieving the Eagle Scout rank requires earning at least 21 merit badges, demonstrating “Scout Spirit,” leadership, and service. Each scout planned, organized and managed each project. The projects touched a variety of locations in King County, benefiting over 50 community organizations. The Scouts donated over 10,500 hours of their time to these projects.
